Stop Wasting Your Time!

This Tarot spread is near and dear to my heart. At one point in my life, I had accounts to pretty much every social media site that was out there. I just wanted to be "up" on technology. I found it so lonely though. I ended up endlessly browsing these sights, bored and feeling rejected by my friends who formerly emailed me, then switched that up for a "like" or a "poke". Conversation just dropped off and I hated it. I spent HOURS a day on these sites, then hours a day watching television...it was a bleak existence lol!

So I canceled my cable, sold my television and deleted all of my accounts online. That was in 2010. I was digitally "clean". Suddenly though, I had a lot of time to fill. I wasn't dating yet at that point, so I dove into hobbies. What a MUCH better way to fill my time!

The only social media, besides email, that I have is Blogger. For me, this is not only social because I get to meet some really nice people; but it's a nice way to pay a tribute to my life and what's important to me. I have a smart phone, but I don't really use it for more than taking pictures, the occasional phone call, and texting my boyfriend when we're too lazy to call down to each other between floors...terrible isn't it lol? I much rather spend my time offline, doing homey stuff and spending time with the fur kids and Alex. I never have any regrets when I balance my life and do what feels rewarding and joyful.

I don't want to be on my death bed updating my Facebook status to "still holding on." 😲

Hi Rain, I used to use social media a lot too, now I just use blogger. I get frustrated because I'm treated like a retard more times than I care to mention. People say I use the 'disabled' card too much. If you were black you'd be accused of using the 'racist' card. You just can't win. I am given advice about driving my wheelchair even though I've been driving it for years. The best thing is though the person who gives me the advice is only a 23-year old who has no driving experience whatsoever!

Hi Terry :) Omgosh...the "disabled" card? Give me a break. I guess I use the "woman" card if we're going to be illogical lol...One thing I've found is that there are people online who will find any and every way to throw negativity at you and criticize you, merited or not. I shut down my old blog in 2008 because I couldn't handle being criticized by anonymous a-holes. Now I just try to laugh it off when it happens and send them right to spam. I keep telling myself that I can only change my own reaction, not control how people out there react. LOL at the 23 year old giving you advice. That's another thing...everyone is an expert and "knows you better" than you know yourself right? ;)

Hi, Rain! You're braver than I am, cutting off your cable service! I don't often sit down to watch tv, but I have my news shows on a lot in the background. I never got into a lot of social media besides emailing, except for Blogger and Facebook (mostly to keep up with my family). I am on my computer a lot researching, writing, and playing with photography ~ and yes, I'm guilty of being a Bejeweled addict. I am fascinated with Tarot, and I've known three people personally who are skilled in giving readings. When I get negative comments on my blog, I channel my inner velociraptor and kick the comment into cyber oblivion. In case you think I'm a little weird, I've always joked that I have strong legs like a velociraptor, and I spent a lot of time volunteering in the fossil lab at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. I'm very into dinosaurs. Have a good one!

Hi Fundy Blue :) I think it's awesome that you love dinosaurs! I do to. One day I want to make the trek to Drumheller Alberta to visit all the dinosaur museums and sights there. Not weird to me! :) I'm more of a Brachiosaurus lol...I've given Tarot readings before, but I feel more in tuned with my own life when I read. I find it odd to transfer my reading to someone else. Oh the cable was rotting my brain lol...Alex and I do watch television shows online once in a while. When we buy our property in a few years, I may entertain the idea of a satellite dish. I am a big fan of cooking shows and have a hard time finding the ones I like online. But at least now I can balance things a little better!!

That is wonderful! You've made great choices. There is a life out there off the computer! Like you, blogger is my go-to place. I love the people I've met there, some of them absolutely amazing. It's the one social media site that I intend to keep alive. As for Facebook, I have a profile but I'm hardly ever there. I've kept it active for some friends and some family members, but it just doesn't interest me. Visiting blogs and connecting with the people that manage them is much more fun.

We cancelled our cable last fall and have never regretted it. Not for one minute! If we want to watch something, we find it on YouTube or on a TV station. There are enough free things there for us for now, even drawing lessons! So we liberated ourselves from any type of TV connection and have even saved money in the process.

Hi Martha :) There IS life beyond the computer...and beyond technology! I have a fb account, but it's not under my name and I usually just use it to ask questions about cheese making to some of the experts out there. Otherwise, I don't even go there! You're right about that, why pay for cable when you can find it online? I mean, there are some things I do miss, like cooking shows. When we settle down in our remote cabin in the woods, we may get a satellite dish. We both love DIY shows and I love those cooking shows. Otherwise, I do find tv boring! There is a site that has tv shows called Watch Series. They have practically everything, but you need a VERY GOOD couple of ad and spam blockers to use it. Whatever you want to see, usually you can see it online! We're currently watching all the Jack Benny tv programs on You Tube.

Blogging takes a lot of my time, TV, Facebook and my illness Fibromyalgia. So actually having those things helps me to get through a rough day. My son plays games online but other than that he dropped off the social media stuff too. Its conversation or nothing. ....

Hi Pam :) I'm sorry you suffer from Fibromyalgia. Blogging takes up a lot of my time as well, but I don't find it wasteful ever because I connect with wonderful people. One of my friend's boyfriends spends his days (no exaggeration) playing some kind of farm game on Facebook. To me, that's a waste. I'd rather be sitting on the porch knitting and watching the dogs play.

Hi, Rain! I'm delighted to know that you love dinosaurs too! I hope that you do get to visit Drumheller I have been to the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller twice. It is wonderful! My sisters all ended up in Calgary, so that's how I ended up at the Tyrell. Denver's dinosaur collection isn't too shabby either! Have a good one!

Hi Fundy Blue! :) Oh, I'm envious of your trip to the Tyrrell!!! I do hope I get there one day too. I remember looking through the town's website and seeing all of the attractions...that would make a wonderful trip one day! We'd just have to get a big RV that would fit Alex and me and all the pets lol! :)
