May Day

A Blessed Beltane to those who celebrate! :) Today is Beltane, which I refer to as May Day. It's a day to celebrate the fertility of the Earth and the upcoming summer season. It's also a day to honour the garden fairies as they awaken from their long winter's sleep. These little creatures take care of the garden all summer long so it's a nice idea to leave a little plot of your garden wild so that they can mingle in safety. :)

A little fairy lore: If you drink water from a well after sunset on May Day, you will likely be kidnapped by the fae and taken to their realm where you will be imprisoned for a year and a day. Best stick to wine after sunset today! ;)

Alex and I went for a walk last night at sundown and caught this beautiful sky. Usually a bright colourful sky at sundown indicates hot weather the next day and the sky did tell the story!

Charlie and Marlene

It's sunny and 20C today and I'm loving it. So are the dogs! Funny how it's so warm yet we have so much snow still! The girls are keeping cool on the snow in this balmy weather. :) The snow is littered with leaves and branches from the wind we've had the last few days. I spent the morning setting up my porch...aaah, the porch life returns! :)

I do a Tarot and/or Oracle reading nearly every day. I wanted to show you this card from my Celtic Tree Oracle...Isn't it beautiful? What do you think of when you look at this card? The first thing that came to mind for me was femininity. After reading about this card more, I wanted to share these very important messages that I got from it.

1. Cultivate an atmosphere of nurturing, compassion, safety and love.

2. Be the kind of person that you would like to have in your life.

3. Earth is a paradise, treat her kindly and carefully, she gives and we need to appreciate her bounty.

4. Accept the cycles of the Earth, but also the cycles of your life. Accept and appreciate where you are right now in your life cycle.

All of these suggestions are wonderful ones, good reminders too. Be generous and sweet! Enjoy your May Day! I hope this is the beginning of a warm and fruitful summer! :)

Blessings of Beltane! :)

Now that is a sky on fire! I love it when the sky sets to flame. Such an otherwordly feeling when that happens.

The first thought I got of that card was awakening.

You are getting the weather we had on the weekend. Today is cold, cloudy and only 4 degrees. Typical!!!

That sky photo is magnificent! And the reminders are, indeed, excellent ones! Cycle of life......I’ve been thinking about that
Very thing!

Happy May, Rain! That image is spectacular! And so magical. I love it. I am also loving the warmer weather. We've had some rain but I can live with that. At least it has stopped snowing.

I'm going to have to see up an area for some garden fairies to show up. There is zero garden appeal in our backyard. We are going to start from scratch, so some fairy help would be much appreciated.

That is a beautiful card. And it's funny because my initial thought was one of femininity. The messages are really lovely, too. I do readings every single morning. It's the first thing I do...well, right after I feed the cats...LOL... Because they are the Rulers of the house :)

WOW....what a beautiful sky, the colors are amazing. When looking at your card I think of regrowth (the leave, flower and it being spring)....nice. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Dianna :) It's very rare that we catch the skies like that because we're in a little valley and the trees and mountains usually hide it from us! But this was a wonderful experience. We're going to try to take our walks at sunset from now on, so as not to miss the beautiful skies!

Thanks Linda :) The cycles of life...there is nothing we can do to stop them, so why not accept them right? Doesn't mean I like being 50 though lol...but I accept it, I'm starting a new cycle of my life and it's exciting. :)

Hi Nik :) More babies!! Definitely an adventure! I hope they are all happy and healthy and the births go easy for the moms. I LOVE May Day! :)

Thank you Baili :) You and I both have that same idea. I think that the butterflies are the little garden fairies at work! :) Last summer I planted flowers to attract them and it was just wonderful seeing them flitter around! :)

Hi Martha :) I can live with rain too...but I've got my eyes crossed that the snow is done for the season...though last May we did get some snow, bah humbug! :) There are "butterfly and bee" pollinator mixed seeds available, I got those last summer and planted them around the garden. The seeds make some pretty flowers and it really did attract the little butterfly fairies and some bees too! :) Oh yes, of course, the pets do rule the house lol...I can't do a thing before I take the dogs out and feed all the critters, or I have eight very penetrating sets of eyes on me constantly lol! That Celtic Tree Oracle is such a beautiful deck! I'm slowly but surely getting to know it much better!

Thanks Pam :) I like hearing what others see when they look at a card. The meanings of the cards are interesting, but first perceptions are important too! Regrowth is definitely a theme I thought about too. It's all around us, I'm loving seeing the Earth growing and getting more green!

Thanks Magic Love Crow :) I have been spending as much time on the porch as I can...even though this morning I'm under blankets and shivering...I refuse to let the cold stop me lol! :)

We must be doing something right this year thus far. . we took the entire edge of our parking area and created a border garden which is right next to our container garden. This year for the first time, we are inundated with visitors. Juncos, finches, swallows, sparrows and starlings. They dart in and out among the plants and containers now. We added a small bird bath since then and it seems so alive. My grandmother used to tell me that if birds visit your garden then the fairy folk are surely found there too. :) We believe they like the strawberry plot as well as the fact we leave a lot of things to winter over since it is so mild here. I am guessing the fairies love that part of our "wild" garden too. :)

BEAUTIFUL sunset image!

The card reminds me of the inner wild. The unseen magic at the core of all that exists. That may be because on our walk the other day I saw a maple tree at the perfect time to witness the unfolding of the leaves. I had never witnessed this before. That they open n a sort of accordion shape and then spread out. I am just amazed that it took me all tase years to see that one little bit of nature's magic. :) So when I look at that card, I see all the "unseen" within the leaf or tree. . .

A beautiful post Rain, as always.

Hi Nicolas :) Oh that sounds great about our border garden!! I believe what your mom says...we have so many birds in our garden, whether we put out bird feed or not...there are lots of trees for them to hang out in all day long. I believe they make the place safe for butterflies and fairies! :) I'm going to have a nice little strawberry patch this summer...in fact my plants are due to arrive Wednesday so I have to get going on where and how I'll be planting them!

I like the idea of the "unseen" within Nature. We really need to open our eyes more and witness the beauty. I have seen maple leaves open the way you describe before. We have so many maples around here. What I'm most in awe of is seeing my seeds just pop out of the Earth overnight! I love that! :)

I hope that you had a happy May Day, Rain. I used to like hunting for May Flowers on May Day in Nova Scotia, and I've danced around a few May Poles. The sky in your photo is glorious! I am enjoying this phase in my life very much. I've been working on getting back in shape ~ my fitness fell apart last year after I was so sick in late July and August. I thought I'd never feel vigorous again, but I've been feeling it in my legs. What a delight to feel strength coming back. Summer is looking food so far! All the best to you!

Thanks Louise! :) Good for you for getting back into shape!!! I have to say that in the last year, I've been lacking in that department too, and I can easily blame the two extra dogs for that, we aren't able to walk them all together...but nothing stopped me from jumping on the trampoline but my own laziness lol! Summer really is looking good so far! :)
